A GROUP of over-55 York golfers have shown they're good eggs by raising more than £450 to help people affected by brain injury.

The Elderly Gentlemen’s Golfing Society - otherwise known as the EGGS and based at Forest of Galtres Golf Club, near Skelton - chose Headway York as its charity for the club's annual fundraising competition.

Captain Jim McIntosh said the EGGS Charity Cup was its annual competition for over-55s. "It’s a friendly but fiercely contested tournament with a charitable angle," he said.

“Rather than have an entry fee, we invite the members to make a donation to a local good cause, with the players themselves voting on which charity to support.

“We were all really touched after hearing of the excellent work of Headway York and we’re delighted to be able to donate this money.”

Sarah Patten, secretary of Headway York, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the EGGS at Forest of Galtres Golf for their generous donation.

“Headway York is a relatively small, volunteer-led branch of the national charity that works to improve life after brain injury. We provide support for people in the local community affected by brain injury – whether they have an injury or care for someone who does.

“This donation will make enable us to put on more events and meetings to ensure anyone in York who is touched by brain injury can feel supported and know they are not alone.”

The EGGS Charity Cup was won by 25-handicapper Wilton Brodie with an impressive score of 43 Stableford points.
