A MOTORCYCLIST is in critical condition after she suffered serious injuries in a crash in North Yorkshire.

The woman, aged in her fifties, was riding an Aprilia motorbike on the A170 between Sutton Bank and the village of Sutton under Whitestonecliffe at about 3.20pm on Thursday, August 27, when the crash happened.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the rider was in collision with a blue Volkswagen Passat being driven by a Canadian woman in her fifties, and was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The driver of the Passat has been arrested and charged with driving without due care and attention. She is due to appear at Northallerton Magistrates' Court on September 4.

The spokeswoman said anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the crash should contact police, and officers especially want to speak to the driver of a tractor who was believed to be at the scene at the time and may be able to assist with the investigation.

Anyone with any information should phone 101, select option 2 and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team or email MCIT@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
