ANNE McIntosh the former MP for Thirsk and Malton has been named as one of 45 new peers in the House of Lords.

Ms Mcintosh said: "I am delighted to receive the honour bestowed upon me and pleased I can renew my parliamentary career where I can pursue my food, farming and rural interests with a close attachment to North Yorkshire.

"There attaches great responsibilities as a Conservative peer which I shall seek to discharge to the best of my ability. "

Anne was elected as MP for the Vale of York in 1997 and for Thirsk, Malton and Filey in 2010, sitting on the Select Committee for Transport, Environment and the Regions before serving as Shadow Minister in a number of roles.

From 2010 until 2015 Anne served as Chairman of the Environment Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee.

Miss McIntosh announced her decision to not to stand in the General Election in March after she was deselected by her constituency association.
