THE team which helps people in Selby with home improvements has been congratulated at an awards ceremony at the House of Lords.

Yorkshire Housing’s Selby Home Improvement Agency were invited to the Handyperson Service of the Year Award at the national Home Improvement Agency (HIA) and Handyperson Awards.

The awards, on June 15, recognise the work of housing support services, and the Selby team was praised for high customer satisfaction scores and commitment to working with other agencies to help older or vulnerable people live independently and safely at home.

The agency, which also operates in York, complete adaptations at homes around the town, including fitting grab rails, odd jobs around the home, and improving home security for older or vulnerable residents.

Kate Haley, agency manager, said: "This award is down to the hard work of the team, and their commitment to helping customers, we have a customer satisfaction score of 99.9 per cent.

"Our handypeople are experienced at working with older people, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups so understand the range of different needs customers have, and offer a trusted and reliable service. We find that making small changes such as fitting a grab rail, securing loose carpets or fitting window locks can make a big difference to our customers."
