TEMPERATURES in York may rise no higher today than on New Year's Day - but warmer weather is finally on the way later this week.

Forecasters predict the mercury will rise no higher than 14C, or 57 F, in York today, and temperatures had only reached 13C at RAF Linton on Ouse by 1pm.

The weather station at the University of York's department of electronics recorded a maximum of 15.5 C on January 9, and 14.5 on the following day, and even New Year's Day reached 14.3C.

However, weathermen say temperatures in York should rise to 16C tomorrow, 17 on Thursday and 18 on Friday, with sunshine at times, and they could hit the heights of 22 by next Monday.
