WHILE many racegoers are normally looking and feeling rather dilapidated by the end of the last race, most began to make their way to gather in front of the stage of York Racecourse’s Music Showcase, eagerly awaiting Scouting For Girls.

Although there was a slight drizzle passing through the dry ice being pumped across the stage, spirits seemed far from dampened as everyone was smiling while they sang the chorus of the opening song, Heartbeat.

Scouting For Girls’ PG-pop, if anything, is feel-good, and I guess this is pretty much what you need after spending a day at the races losing your money like I did.

While I feel, a lot of Scouting For Girls’ music is repetitive, this worked for lead singer Roy Stride’s call-and-response interaction with the crowd as it had people singing along to most of the songs. This even included unreleased songs from their upcoming fourth album.

For most people, the draw of this band was the singles, but what I found best in their set was an unexpected cover of Paull McCartney and Wings' Live And Let Die. This was more akin to the Guns N’ Roses version, as opposed to the original, and worked surprisingly well.

The encore came complete with a wedding proposal –she said yes! - followed of course by She’s So Lovely. I know full well the three-word chorus of Scouting For Girls' biggest hit will be replayed in everyone’s head for the next couple of days or so.
