TWO people have died following a head on crash.

Humberside Police closed the B1251 shortly after 11.50am on Monday when a silver Vauxhall Meriva was in collision with a grey Range Rover close to Fimber Field Farm, near Fridaythorpe, in East Yorkshire.

The 70-year-old male driver and 65-year-old female passenger of the Meriva both died in the incident, while the driver of the Range Rover, a 76-year-old Fimber man and a woman travelling in the front passenger seat escaped without serious injuries and were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Fire fighters and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance were also called to the scene, while a vet was dispatched to treat an injured dog who was in one of the vehicles.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service sent one engine each from Pocklington, Driffield and Clough Road station in Hull to help free the injured from their cars.

The road was shut for eight hours while an investigation took place.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or either of the vehicles prior to the crash, is asked to call 101, quoting log number 201 of July 13.
