SCORES of students from York's Canon Lee School have celebrated the end of their exams with a prom at York Racecourse.

About 100 Year 11 pupils aged 15 and 16 dressed up to the nines for the event in the Knavesmire stand, with some arriving in limos, others on a bus and one in a Porsche.

School business manager Wendy Monro said they were marking the end of their time at the school, before moving on to other schools with sixth forms, York College or apprenticeship schemes.

She said headteacher Frances Johnston and about 20 teachers joined them at the prom, which featured a buffet, disco and awards ceremony.

Award winners included Alex Tattersall, who was named Prom King, Chloe Simpkin, who was Prom Queen and Amy Chilton, who was named Biggest Comedian.

"The evening was a fitting celebration of the students' lives at Canon Lee School," she added.
