THE driver who helped footballer Clarke Carlisle as he fought for his life on the A64 near York has died.
Twenty-four year old Chris Kilbride, from Leeds, witnessed the crash when the former York City defender jumped in front of a lorry just before Christmas last year, the Daily Mirror has reported today.
He reportedly called 999, and stayed at the scene comforting both Mr Carlisle and the shocked and injured lorry driver.
Mr Kilbride's father, also Chris, has confirmed his son's death by writing on social media: "It is with deep regret and a broken heart that I have to inform my friends that my son Chris Kilbride passed away yesterday.
"Thanks to all the people that have already passed on their thoughts. RIP son I'm already missing you like crazy.....You will never leave my thoughts xxx."
Mr Carlisle has paid his own tribute to the young father, the Mirror reported, saying: "It is tragic news.
"My sincerest condolences go out to his family at this time."
The West Yorkshire coroner has confirmed he has been informed of the death, but it is not known how Mr Kilbride died.
