DOZENS of girls from primary schools across York and North Yorkshire took part in a team-building day with a difference.
A total of 80 girls from six schools turned out at The Mount School in Dalton Terrace formed ten teams to build and race their own hovercrafts.
It's the second time the all-girls private school has hosted it's Hovercraft Day and they hope to make it an annual tradition.
Joanne Crowther, of J&J Events which ran the workshop, said: “This is a fantastic project that gets the girls imagination running wild.
"Team effort is the key, with everybody working in perfect synergy.”
Joanne Hayward, deputy principal at The Mount, said: “This is the second year The Mount has hosted Hovercraft Day and we were pleased to have two new schools join us this year.
"The girls’ enthusiasm has not waned the entire day and it was a joy to host the girls and staff from Brackenfield School, Minster School, Scarcroft School, St Paul’s CE Primary and Terrington Hall as well as our own Junior School girls.”
The workshop is open to Year 6 and Year 5 girls and aims to inspire them in STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) subjects.
The third place team was from St Paul’s, second place team was from Minster School and the winning team was a combined team with girls from Scarcroft and Terrington Hall. Scarcroft School had come first and second in 2014.
The next Hovercraft Day at The Mount will be on March 1 next year to register a team and join in the fun please contact Vanessa Charters on 01904 232325 or marketing@mountschoolyork.co.uk
