ECO-FRIENDLY cyclists stripped off and got in the saddle today to take part in an eyebrow-raising protest.
The World Naked Bike Ride celebrated its tenth anniversary when riders - angry at a lack of bike safety and the dominance of cars on today's roads - wore only their birthday suits for a Sunday afternoon jaunt around York.
The 7.6-mile ride took in Micklegate, Coney Street and York Minster before passing through Coppergate, Clifford's Tower, Lendal Bridge and Skeldergate.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary, organisers teamed up with City Screen to promote the screening of the film Bikes vs Cars.
This film looks at the history of the conflict between car culture and other road users, and shows how reducing motor traffic, or stopping it altogether, can benefit many more people.
Tony Minou, WNBR UK coordinator for the north of England, said: "If we really have to take our clothes off every year simply to prove that we exist on the roads, then surely it is time for drivers to change their way of thinking. Until they do, we’ll carry on."
