A BUS was taken out of service when vandals smashed its windows.
First York's number one service was put out of action when it was damaged in New Earswick at 10.50pm on Sunday.
The passengers were helped off the bus and put on a replacement service.
A spokesman for First York buses said: "Despite every effort by our control team we were unable to get a replacement bus into service in time which meant the 10.55pm service from Wigginton did not run.
"I'd like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers due to this mindless act of vandalism.
"We will work hard with our partners at North Yorkshire Police to apprehend those responsible.
"Such acts threaten the safety of our staff and customers and we urge the community to contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111 with any information to ensure this is not repeated."
