YORK’S newest street has been officially named and opened by the Lord Mayor.

Le Tour Way has 27 new homes, just off Beckfield Lane in Acomb, and was named by Carr Junior School pupil Aimee Harrison.

Yesterday, the new residents and the Lord Mayor of York Cllr Sonja Crisp gathered for a party.

Aimee said: “I’m really pleased to think people will be living in Le Tour Way and hope they’ll be very happy in their new homes. I’m really proud to have named the street and am excited to see it opened.”

Steve Waddington, City of York Council’s assistant director of housing and safer communities, said: “Le Tour Way is the second development of new homes built as part of the council’s house-building programme.

“It is a mixed development of nine apartments for tenants aged 55 and over, a further nine council houses and then there is nine more houses for market sale.”
