A BOOK containing pictures of a different era of cycling is looking for a buyer in York.

The photo album is on sale at Ken Spelman books, and contains about 100 pictures of cyclists from York clubs, many from the 1920s and 30s.

The book includes photos from a club known as YCRC. Shop staff say they are not sure of the meaning of the acronym, and their best guess is York City Road Club. There are also pictures of members from Leeds CTC.

Manager Susie Lockie-Bloore said the book, which contains “wonderful photos”, had been with the shop for about a month, and had been placed in the window as part of a display to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire.

The photo book has a £120 price tag, and Susie said it had attracted “some attention”, but not yet been bought.

Susie said the images showed a change from today’s cycle wear.

She said: “There are some wonderful photos of them doing time trials, run by the Yorkshire Cycling Federation.

“There is no Lycra in sight, it’s all suit jackets and shirts!

“There are photos of days out locally – Whitby, Kirkham Abbey, Coxwold, Stavely and Runswick Bay– with two pretty ladies holding giant crabs!”

She added: “There are also pictures of trips to Norway and Germany in 1937.”
