A STUDY into the tourism trends of Britons has found the number of passengers flying from the region’s airports to the Spanish resort of Benidorm is set to increase.

More than 70 per cent of residents from North Yorkshire, and the wider Yorkshire and Humber region, stated they would consider going, or have already been to Benidorm. A large proportion of those from Yorkshire and Humberside stated they had been to the area, with near to 35% having been on three or more visits.

The research undertaken by GalaBingo.com, showed nearly two thirds of the survey’s participants from the local counties felt Benidorm’s weather was the major reason for choosing the town as a holiday destination, while ten per cent of those asked said it was due to the resort’s family activities such as theme and waterparks.

One major draw for locals is the availability of cheap flights from Leeds Bradford airport. Since the airport started putting on more of these cheap deals, the number of passengers from the local area visiting the Costa Del Sol has soared. Whilst many pick a holiday destination for its sun and sea, 18 per cent of people from York and the surrounding areas said they fancied a trip to Benidorm thanks to the success of the ITV comedy series.
