ENGLISH Heritage is to stage auditions at Clifford’s Tower in York as it bids to find its first CEO – Child Executive Officer.

The organisation, which looks after more than 400 historic places across England, has launched a nationwide search for the right child for the post as part of its Kids’ Takeover season this summer.

It wants a CEO with a difference, who can lead events and fun activities at sites such as Whitby Abbey and Scarborough Castle, whether it is a sleepover in a castle, leading a Roman army into battle or locking their dad in a dungeon.

Children aged 12 or under who love castles, forts and battlefields, and who have lots of imagination, are being urged to put themselves forward for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Fun auditions will be held at sites across the country, including Clifford’s Tower.

To apply, youngsters will need to say what period in history they would most like to travel back to – and why – and tell what fun activity from the past they would most like to do.

Children should apply by Sunday, June 7 at English Heritage sites or online at
