A LIFESAVING charity has received its largest ever single donation totalling almost £1 million.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) plans to put the £944,254 from Yorkshire Building Society towards a new helicopter, after it was collected from the customers’ YAA affinity savings accounts in the last year.

The charity has to raise £12,000 every day to keep flying its 1,200 missions each year, providing air emergency service across four million acres of Yorkshire.

Peter Sunderland, YAA chairman, said: “This is the largest, single donation the charity has ever received and we are overwhelmed by the support of the Society.

“We are currently looking at provisions for a future replacement helicopter for one of our current aircraft.”

Gary Lacey, savings product manager from Yorkshire Building Society, said: “To have been responsible for the largest ever donation to the YAA is something the Society is very proud of. We are delighted to be able to help such a vital service as YAA, which is close to the hearts of many of our members.”
