CITY of York Council has been shortlisted for three national awards.

The authority is up for Best Council Service Team, Trading Standards and Environmental Health and Digital City UK in the MJ awards.

They recognise and praise innovation in local government, and the winners of each award will be announced at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane on June 18.

As well as its digital achievements, York was recently confirmed as the first city in the world to have its city centre WiFi receive “friendly WiFi accreditation” for being a safe service for young people to browse the internet on.

Kersten England, City of York Council chief executive, said: “This demonstrates the great work our staff are doing to improve the services we provide and support residents. I would like to congratulate all three teams.”
