UPDATE 5.30PM: The track has now been cleared by an engineer from Network Rail, and normal rail services are set to resume.

--------------------------------------------------------

A CAR towing a caravan has become stuck on a level crossing in North Yorkshire.

The vehicle is believed to have been crossing the railway tracks on the A1238 Leeds Road in Thorpe Willoughby, near Selby, when it became trapped.

A spokeswoman for Network Rail said the incident had been reported to them at 4.20pm by a signaller, and trains would be disrupted between Selby, York and Leeds until the vehicle has been removed.

A local witness said the barrier had come down between the car and the caravan, meaning it could not be moved off the tracks.

The Network Rail spokeswoman said an engineer was en route to the incident, and said both North Yorkshire Police and British Transport Police had been alerted to the incident.
