IT could just be the most taxing pub crawl York has ever known.

Not only will they need to know their way between six city watering holes - they'll need to know a whole lot more as well.

Organisers of the charity pub quiz crawl say they hope their event will appeal to thinkers and drinkers, and encourage them to visit new pubs.

The event will take place on Tuesday, May 19, with a round of questions in each pub.

The venues taking part in York are The Swan in Bishopgate Street, The Mount in The Mount, The Bay Horse in Blossom Street, The Ackhorne in St Martin's Lane, The Red Lion in Merchantgate and The Rook & Gaskill in Lawrence Street.

Teams of no more than six people can take part and are asked to register at The Swan from 5.30pm, followed by an introduction and the first round.

The quiz will then move to the other listed pubs before concluding with the final round at The Rook and Gaskill, from 10pm, then the results and prize presentation.

The event has been instigated by Quiz Britain, a website that promotes and helps publicise pub quizzes. York was chosen as it has so many good pubs within walking distance of each other.

Quiz organiser John Henderson asks anyone wanting to register a team to email enigmatist50@hotmail.com with #YorkWhizz in the subject field. Admission is £2.50 per team member, with 50p going to the prize fund and £2 to the pubs' chosen charities.

Teams must buy a round of drinks in each pub to receive the questions. Team members can catch up en route, but teams must be registered at the start of the circuit.
