FIVE fire engines were sent to tackle a blaze at Strensall Common Nature Reserve.
The 999 crews were called to the heathland at 6.10 last night to a fire stretching over 1,500 metres.
An Argocat multi terrain vehicle was called in, as firefighters from Huntington, York, Acomb and Kirbymoorside used water backpacks and beaters to help extinguish the flames.
Investigating officers will return to the scene on Tuesday morning to determine how the fire started.
