A COLLECTION of car memorabilia which belonged to a well-known dealer will go on sale next month.

Frank Buck was 75 when he died in York Hospital in December, and was well-known throughout the travelling community in York, with hundreds of people turning up to pay their respects at York Crematorium.

Auctioneers Summersgills of Easingwold and York will host a sale of Mr Buck’s collection and other memorabilia - which includes 500 car mascots from Mr Buck’s personal collection.

Posters, car parts and petrol pumps will also be on sale at the auction, and Tim Summersgill who is running the auction, said the collection included a wide variety of items and could raise thousands of pounds.

Mr Summersgill said: “He had been in the motoring industry most of his life, and I think he had collected most of his life too. We have probably had 20 or 30 mascots at a time from one collection, so this is quite a large amount and probably going to to raise £25,000 to £30,000 which will go towards his family.

“Mr Buck’s collection of 500 car mascots includes flying ladies and grilles from Rolls Royces, hub caps and signs. There is also an MGB GT Roadster from another estate, which needs restoring, and petrol pumps and a lot of things still coming in, but the majority is Mr Buck’s estate.

“It’s quite popular for car memorabilia to sell well. Last week’s sale saw things go to New Zealand, Austria, Italy and Germany, so I expect things will go worldwide, it will be very interesting.”

The sale takes place on Saturday, May 9, at noon, at The Auction Centre, Roxby House Estate, York Road, Easingwold, and items can still be entered for sale by phoning 01904 791131. For more information visit summersgills.com
