ROADWORKS are due to go on for three days after a water main burst in Tadcaster Road in York, causing its partial collapse and closure.
The water main burst near the Holiday Inn hotel yesterday morning and saw a large area beside the street dug up.
Yorkshire Water has warned that people living in the YO24 area may experience temporary water discolouration.
A City of York Council spokesperson said: "The council worked closely with Yorkshire Water and emergency services to reopen one lane of the carriageway (in-bound) on this immediate stretch of road.
"This is currently being managed by temporary traffic lights, which will be in place for up to three-days."
Businesses in the street have been unaffected, with The Blue Fin fish and chip shop saying the water had not reached the doors of the stretch of shops nearby.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said: "If you experience short-term discoloured water and you need water for drinking or cooking, please follow our advice: "Run the tap which is fed first from your water supply for several minutes (this will usually be your kitchen tap).
"Fill a jug and leave it to stand until any sediment has settled to the bottom.
"Pour the clean water from the top of the jug for use.
"Discoloured water resulting from iron and manganese deposits is unlikely to have any health implications.
"Whilst your water is discoloured, don't run the hot tap or use dishwashers, washing machines or any appliances fed by your hot water supply."
