A SIX-DAY manhunt for a York man suspected of a serious assault on a woman has ended with an arrest.
Detectives launched a public appeal to trace Kyle Illingworth, 24, after a woman suffered severe head injuries during a violent attack in Acomb in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The woman was still in hospital yesterday, and was described as being in a stable condition.
North Yorkshire Police launched its appeal over the weekend to find Illingworth, and urged members of the public to report any sightings of him while officers conducted searches around the city to try and track him down.
Police were called to a house in the Clifton area at about 12.30pm yesterday, where Illingworth was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
A spokeswoman acknowledged there had been a positive response to the public appeals by police, but said yesterday’s arrest had been due to the efforts of detectives and not information from the public.
Illingworth remained in police custody last night.
