A MAN has died after being hit by a train in Harrogate. 

He was struck at 1.36pm today near the Crimple Viaduct and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not suspicious. 

The incident is causing delays of up to 60 minutes on the line between York and Leeds via Harrogate.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to reports of a man being struck by a train near Crimple Viaduct in Harrogate at 1.36pm today, Thursday, 16 April. 

“BTP officers attended, alongside colleagues from the West Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service

“A man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to identify the man and inform his family. 

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
