AN “EXPERIENCED and highly respected” police motorcyclist has died after he was involved in a collision with a car in East Yorkshire.

PC Russ Wylie, 28, a roads policing officer with Humberside Police, was riding a marked motorcycle with a second police rider when the collision with a Mitsubishi 4x4 occurred.

PC Wylie was airlifted to hospital, where he died from his injuries, a force spokeswoman said.

The crash happened on the B1362, Daisy Hill Road, in Burstwick, close to a golf course.

PC Wylie was taken by air ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary.

The woman who was driving the Mitsubishi sustained minor injuries.

The roads policing officer was not responding to an emergency call at the time, police said.

PC Wylie was based at Melton, East Yorkshire, and worked predominantly in North and North East Lincolnshire.

Deputy Chief Constable David Griffin, of Humberside Police, said: “It is with great sadness that I can confirm that PC Russell Wylie passed away at Hull Royal Infirmary.

“Russell was an experienced and highly respected roads policing officer who will be badly missed by all his colleagues and friends in Humberside Police.

“The loss of life of a colleague on duty is felt by everyone in the force.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with Russell’s family.

“We are grateful for the numerous messages of support and condolence that have been received from across the country.

“Russell’s untimely death serves as a stark reminder of the risks that face police officers up and down the country day in and day out as they serve and protect the public.

“He was a popular officer who worked as part of a close knit highly professional roads policing team who are devastated by his loss.

“It is a tribute to their professionalism and respect for their colleague that they have immediately resumed their duties to make our roads and communities safer.”

A Humberside Police Federation spokesman said: “It is with heartfelt sadness by all officers and staff of Humberside Police that today we lost an exceptional friend and colleague.

“His loss is felt throughout the force. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this time.”
