THREE women had to be cut free from their car and a seven-year-old boy was injured in a crash which closed a main road into York for six hours.
Police shut the A166 at Gate Helmsley for six hours following the collision between a beige Skoda Fabia and blue Ford Focus C-MAX at 11.15am on Thursday.
Fire crews from York and Huntington fire stations attended the accident and a fire service spokesman said they found the occupants of the Skoda, two women aged 88 and another in her 60s, were trapped in the car.
A fire service spokesman said: “The woman in her 60s was complaining of chest pains and one of the 88-year-olds was suffering from neck pains and other medical issues.

“Crews used cutting equipment, stabilisation equipment and small tools to release them. A seven-year-old boy, also travelling in the Fabia, was out on arrival of the fire service.”
A police spokesman said that two female drivers, aged 39 and 65, and a seven-year-old boy, were taken to York Hospital with minor injuries.
Police told motorists to avoid the area while they investigated the incident throughout the majority of yesterday afternoon and the road reopened at about 5.15pm.
