Dundee United skipper Barry Robson stole the show in the Scottish Cup fourth-round tie at Broadwood but he was full of praise for opponents Clyde.

The Scotland international struck the only goal of the game as his powerful 30-yard strike swerved out of the reach of Clyde keeper David Hutton and into the top corner.

Robson's moment of magic came 12 minutes into the second half after Clyde had matched United in a tight first period.

And the Irn-Bru First Division side could have taken the lead just before Robson's special goal when Gary Arbuckle ran on to a long ball to fire a shot that United keeper Euan McLean parried away.

Robson was modest about his role and was impressed with Colin Hendry's men - who he rates as a fitter group than many SPL teams.

"It was a good goal but I think a lot of credit has to go to Clyde," he said.

"I think they were outstanding - their work rate and organisation was great.

"We weren't at our best but I don't want to take anything away from Clyde, I thought they were really good."

Clyde boss Colin Hendry said he was proud of his team's efforts.

The former Blackburn and Rangers defender agreed Robson was the difference in a tough cup encounter.

"I thought we were very accomplished but just missing that edge to make a difference," he said.

"Of course, Dundee United have got that. We lacked the cutting edge but I'm fairly proud of what they gave us."

The ex-Scotland skipper was fulsome in his praise for Robson - who is said to be a transfer target for Celtic - and his goal.

He said: "There was hardly any backlift when he struck the ball, it surprised us on the bench how quickly it happened.

"The goal he scored tonight was something else. That's why clubs are looking to sign such players."
