IT was a tale of black cabs rather than black ties at the RSNO's recital at the Royal Concert Hall last night.

Nearly 100 Glasgow TOA taxi drivers attended the orchestra's Naked Classics show after a call was put out over their radios for free tickets.

As part of a drive to get more people interested in classical music, the orchestra's education department contacted TOA to ask if its members would like to come to see a show.

Taxi bosses put the call-out over the radio - and 96 responded.

Rachel Bull of the RSNO, said: "The idea came from Naked Classics presenter Paul Rissman.

"He was in a taxi cab and the driver was listening to Classic FM and they began chatting.

"So Paul suggested we offer taxi drivers free tickets.

"We were overwhelmed by the response."

Last night's Naked Classics show focused on Beethoven. It was almost a full house for the concert, of which the Evening Times is media partner. More shows are scheduled later this year and we'll be previewing every performance.
