Like many of us, it was his parents' record collection that switched James Lavelle on to music.

Early Lavelle DJ sets included tracks by Stevie Wonder and Deep Purple, an odd mix that helped launch both James Lavelle as a DJ and his label Mo' Wax; good tunes are good tunes - the genre doesn't matter.

If being the founder of one of the coolest and most respected record labels in the world isn't enough, James Lavelle is also one half of UNKLE and has created countless remixes over the years for the likes of Garbage, The Verve, Blur, Beck, Radiohead, Massive Attack and countless others.

He started djing at the age of 14, dropped out of school at 16, and at the age of 18 borrowed £1000 from his employer to set up the Mo' Wax label.

James will be providing the soundtrack as Glasgow's Cotton Cake night celebrates its second birthday on April 6.

Also on the bill will be Sleeper Thief, a new production outfit based in London. A collaboration between Miss Jools and Audiofly, they got together to create a new sound, based on their differing musical backgrounds and influences.

Miss Jools is not only a well known DJ figure on the underground scene, but is also the co-founder of Clandestino, London's most infamous Sunday night club.

Live sounds on both floors will be provided by the upcoming Little Digitals who have already done remixes on Southern Fried records. The mighty Deportivo Street Team, who have supported Cotton Cake from day one, will also be unleashing new material.

Everlasting Blink and of course Cotton Cake party starters Mehdi and Jamie will also be in action!

Cotton Cake @ The Classic Grand, April 6, 11pm-4am (subject to license). £10.
