SO there you are, trying to enjoy a quiet pint in your local and having a chat with your mates.

All seems right with the world, apart from one small detail some joker is playing Mariah Carey on the jukebox.

Not just once, or twice, but up to 20 times in the space of a few hours. Finally, tempers snap, and the rest of the punters force-feed the fan with the jukebox.

Apart from that last bit, this tale is true.

It happened in Southampton, and the man in question, 35-year-old Jeff Donovan, has been banned from the pub, the Gordon Arms, for taking his love for Mariah just a touch too far.

The rest of the pub probably had no objection to listening to Mariah a couple of times.

But up to 20 times a night no wonder they complained.

It raises the question: is there someone in your local who hogs the jukebox to play an artist close to his - or her - heart?

Do you have to endure Simply Red for hours on end? Or Norah Jones? Or Amy Winehouse? Or Take That?

What singer or artist, in other words, can clear a pub more efficiently than the usual cry of Last orders, please'? Which famous singer would force you to make a sharp exit from the pub? Amanda Maker, 18, bar worker, Glenrothes Anything by The Proclaimers would make me want to leave, especially their song 500 Miles. I don't really like the song and it gets everyone rowdy. James Wakefield, 22, bar worker, City Centre One band that I don't like is Green Day and if their song American Idiot ever came on the jukebox in a pub I was having a drink in, then I would leave. Carly Mentiplay, 22, hairdresser, City Centre The song that would make me leave would be Justin Timberlake's SexyBack. It is just a song I don't like and I can't stand it when it comes on. John Dallas, 76, retired, Cumbernauld Any song by Pete Doherty or Babyshambles would make me leave, I have to say. I really don't like his lifestyle, his garbled lyrics and I am not envious of him at all. Laura Cumming, 19, student, Newton Mearns I hate classical music so anything that came on would make me want to leave. I find classical music very boring and I hate listening to it. George Robertson70, retired, Provanmill If I was in a pub and the Kate Bush song Wuthering Heights came on then it would make me leave. She just screams and is not a good singer. Jenna Curry, 19, student, Cambuslang Country music would make me leave a bar if it came on. One singer that really annoys me is Kenny Rogers so if his music came on I would leave. David Brady, 46, admin assistant, Cardonald I don't like Country and Western music and if Stand By Your Man by Tammy Wynette came on when I was enjoying a drink then it would make me leave.
