ORGANISERS of the Uefa Cup final at Hampden will kick off a ticket scramble today at the launch of the showcase event.

Ticket prices and sales outlets will be revealed at the national stadium this morning.

Rangers fans will be hoping Walter Smith's men can bring the curtain down on a turbulent season by reaching the glamour final on May 16.

The Ibrox side is in the last 32 of the competition, along with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers.

Hampden's 52,045 capacity will be split between the teams in the final, neutrals, sponsors, competition winners, Uefa and the Scottish Football Association.

David Taylor, chief executive of the SFA, will announce how fans can get tickets at the launch event attended by Lord Provost Liz Cameron.

City leaders hope the event repeats the success of the 2002 Champions League Final, when a Zinedine Zidane wonder goal won the trophy for Real Madrid.

A specially commissioned logo, inspired by the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, has already been unveiled and will be seen by tens of millions of football fans around the world.

The Champions League Final generated more than £25million for Glasgow and business chiefs predict May's spectacular will be worth at least £20m.

A Uefa Cup final was last staged in Scotland in 1987. Dundee United took on Gothenburg at Tannadice but lost 2-1 over two home and away legs.
