MORE than a dozen police officers took part in a day of action which saw 11 people arrested in York.

A total of 19 officers, assisted by CID, specials and the North Yorkshire Police dog section, executed a number of warrants in the Bell Farm and Clifton areas of York.

Acting Sergeant Simon Pape said: “We identified we hadn’t had a day of action for a couple of months but it was the right time to get local resources together.

“We were acting on information given to us by the public and sat down and worked though it and it’s the great way of interacting with the community who are feeding us that information and we managed to get 19 officers on side to help us carry this out.”

A/Sgt Pape said 11 people had been arrested during the warrants, including two people for possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, who were later released on police bail.

Other arrests were made for failure to pay fines, failure to appear at court, burglary, theft, and public disorder, while plain-clothed officers also conducted patrols which apprehended nine other offenders.

A/Sgt Pape said: “The community told us they thought it was fantastic. We were acting on information they were giving us. We let people know what we’d done and the response was great.

“Two operational warrants were done simultaneously, with 13 police officers involved and the public seemed to be impressed to see the results we were getting and the organisation we’d shown to get it done like that. With 11 arrests, I think that’s a great result. A lot of people who knew they were wanted for court warrants for failure to appear. It’s a good chance to make them aware that if they don’t hear from us straight away, we have not forgotten about them.”
