VOLUNTEERS have created a new bee-keeping facility with the help of City of York Council.

The council’s first apiary is being created at Bootham Stray allotments, with beekeepers and volunteers installing the first hive earlier this week. The apiary is part of the council’s York’s Buzzing project, which aims to support pollinating insects to improve the environment and gardens and plantlife.

Now, the council is looking for more beekeeping tenants, or those who are considering taking up the pastime, to contact York and District Beekeeping Association.

Nigel Davies, from York and District Beekeeping Association, said: “ We hope to introduce our members and other bee-keepers to the new opportunities.”
