UPDATE: The station was reopened at just before 5pm.
A POLICE station in East Yorkshire has been closed to the public after an unexploded bomb was handed in at the front counter.
The ordnance device was handed in at Goole Police Station earlier today, leading to the evacuation and closure of the building.
Humberside Police said the device is believed to be a shell from the Second World War which is about six inches long and two inches wide.
A spokesman said police are seeking advice from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team regarding safe disposal of the object, and urged the public to stay away from the police station until further notice.
