HUNDREDS of hand made pocket crosses were blessed at a special service at York Minster this week.

The crosses had been made by members of the Mothers' Union from the Diocese of York, to celebrate Lady Day.

Staff at the Minster were presented with the crosses, which had been individually stitched by members of the Mothers' Union, and were made in the colours of the Yorkshire Regiment, at a service which saw Dean of York Vivienne Faull speak to the crowd at the South Transept door, where members displayed their banners.

The Mothers' Union works with people of all faiths around the world with fundraising projects and campaigns, and the pocket crosses also included a poem of reflection.

This was the latest batch of pocket crosses to be made by the Mothers' Union - which includes men and women from North, West and South Yorkshire - and follows a similar blessing and presentation in November last year, where hundreds of stitched crosses were given to members of the Regiment ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
