A MOTORCYCLIST from York was killed in Germany when his bike crashed into a car which had crossed his path, an inquest was told.

The car's driver was later fined for causing the death of Bruce Thomas-Peter through her negligence, said York's acting senior Coroner Jonathan Leach.

He said Mr Thomas-Peter, 57, of Lown Hill, Acomb, was driving in an orderly manner and on the correct side of an A-road near Freiburg when the accident happened in September 2013.

He said the car's driver, Martha Dey, attempted to turn her Opel Corsa across his path, causing him to brake and his front wheel then locked.

His motorbike skidded and collided with a rear wheel of the car, and Mr Thomas-Peter also collided with the car.

Mr Leach said the fatal accident, which happened in dry weather and during daylight in a location outside the built-up area, was investigated by Freiburg police, who produced a comprehensive report.

He said Mrs Dey was charged with causing the death of a person through negligence, and she pleaded guilty at a district court in May last year and was fined 3,600 Euros and ordered to pay costs.

Mr Leach concluded that Mr Thomas-Peter died of head injuries and multiple trauma after a road traffic collision.
