SCAM callers claiming to be council workers have been phoning people in the East Riding.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is now warning people to be on their guard, and never give out personal information or bank details to people whose identity they are unsure of.

Trading standards manager Colin Briggs said: “These calls are not being made by staff at East Riding of Yorkshire Council and people should be vigilant when answering the telephone, particularly if it is a number they do not recognise.

“The people who have told us about these calls have become suspicious when the person has started asking about credit cards and have rightly ended the phone call.”

Anyone who has received a call should report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
