CHILDREN from Wigginton Primary School in York put on the purrfect show when they performed the musical Cats.

Eighteen dancers and gymnasts together with more than 30 members of the school’s Singstars choir spent six weeks rehearsing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular West End show.

The production, arranged by teacher Sarah Ryding with help from fellow teachers Kate Robinson and Jessa Liverside, was performed four times for pupils and parents.

Sarah said: “Cats was the most magical production that I have been involved in since working at Wigginton School.

“I was so very proud of all the children involved and it was very emotional watching the final show.

“There were some shining individual performances and it was a real team effort with people helping with hair, make-up and lights.

“Special thanks must go to Bob Berriman for all his help with the lighting.”

Head teacher Pat Boyle added: “This was a truly delightful performance and with its focus on gymnastics and dance it was quite different to our traditional productions.”
