A DRUNK woman crashed her BMW on a petrol station forecourt while driving at more than four times the legal drink-drive limit.

Tina Knowles, 43, gave a breath-test reading of 152 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Knowles was so drunk she had to be taken to hospital. A witness said she had also appeared to be on her phone at the time.

Petrol station employee Rebecca Roberts had looked out of her kiosk window and seen a car go past, said David Ward, prosecuting at Beverley Magistrates Court on Friday.

He said: "It drove across the forecourt without stopping and collided with a substantial metal vapour release pump opposite the kiosk.

"The female driver appeared to be on a mobile phone at the time. Miss Roberts could smell alcohol on her breath. She was very drunk. She could not talk properly and was slurring her words.

"Miss Roberts said to turn off the petrol pumps immediately for public safety."

The incident happened at the petrol station in Middle Street South, Driffield, East Yorkshire, on Friday, February 13.

The court heard Knowles offered no resistance when staff took her car keys from her.

She was taken to Scarborough Hospital for a check-up because of concerns for her health.

Knowles, of Skerne Road, Driffield, East Yorkshire, admitted drink driving.

She also admitted breach of bail. She failed to attend court on Wednesday due to a mix up over the date.

The court heard she had a previous conviction in August 2014 for failing to provide a specimen of breath and ten penalty points on her licence.

Knowles was bailed to appear back at court on April 1 and given an interim driving ban.
