BEER campaigners in York have named The Maltings in Tanner's Moat as their 2015 pub of the year.

The pub triumphed in a poll among members of the city's Campaign for Real Ale branch. It is the first time since 2000 that the Maltings has won the top award.

Landlord Shaun Collinge said he was delighted and honoured.

He said: "When we started here 23 years ago, we bucked a failing trend. Winning awards then was very nice but without being unkind, we look back and thing we were not up against all that much.

"But nowadays, with the way the York drinking scene has evolved, I am very proud. There are some excellent bars and some stiff competition so it is good coming out on top."

York Press:

The Maltings will hold a celebration evening with Camra members and the general public at a date to be confirmed, probably in April.

The pub was once the Lendal Hotel but has been The Maltings since 1992. It is highly respected for its beer range, and an extension was added in summer 2012.
