MARIE Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal – the charity’s largest annual fundraising event - is poised to turn the city yellow.

Volunteers gathered in St Helen’s Square to mark the start of the campaign and will be donning hats, collecting coins and handing out daffodil pins across the city until the end of March.

The charity's Lizzie Sanders said: “Thank you to everyone who has already signed up but we need more help. We’re keen to recruit more local people to donate a few hours of their time at collection points across the area.

"Donating your time to the appeal will help Marie Curie Nurses continue to provide free care for local families. We’ve got a role for everyone so, whether you’ve got a couple of hours or a couple of days a week to spare, please get in touch”.

With over 200 collection dates planned in North and East Yorkshire alone, the charity still needs the help of willing volunteers to raise as much money as possible.

All money raised will help support the team of nurses who care for people with terminal illnesses in their own homes.

Anyone who can help with collections for the Great Daffodil Appeal should phone Lizzie on 01904 755260 or visit www.mariecurie.org.uk to find a local collection point.

Alternatively, if you’d like to take part in an event, organise your own activity, raise money in your local area or give us your time as a volunteer, please visit www.mariecurie.org.uk/get-involved to find out more.
