A YORK couple are appealing for help after losing their wedding photographs in a burglary of their home in York.

Sharon Lewis, 33, and Gareth Birbeck, 32, returned to their home in Cinder Mews in the Leeman Road area on Thursday to find a window had been forced open and their home had been ransacked.

They were devastated to find that among the items taken was a MacBook Pro laptop containing photographs from their wedding in Gibraltar last summer and the hard drive used to back the images up.

Sharon, a marketing executive, said: "I'm really gutted. We only moved in three months ago and it seems a lovely quiet area. It's not something you expect to happen or something you can prepare for.

"It feels like a complete violation."

Other items taken from the house were a sentimental gold and silver locket and a sterling silver charm necklace with three charms on it, including a hammered heart and a key.

An Xbox One with games, an Amazon Fire TV, a Kindle Fire tablet and a Samsung TV were also all stolen in the raid.

A large canvas Ikea bag was also taken and was believed to have been used to carry the stolen items from the house during the burglary which happened between 8am and 6pm on Thursday.

The laptop and Seagate hard drive contained all the pictures Sharon has taken in the last ten years.

They are asking for anyone with information to contact police, particularly anyone who may be offered a MacBook Pro or Seagate hard drive at a cheap price.

A Twitter campaign to find the items has seen people in York retweet the appeal nearly 200 times in an attempt to spread the word.

The burglary has been reported to police, and anyone with information or who may know where the items are is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101.
