"I thought he was dead" - Mum-of-two denies joining sadistic attack on York man - She says she had no idea he was unconscious and blooded in her cupboard

Kelly Ann Raisbeck, 22, broke down in tears today as she denied instigating and then taking part in a sadistic attack on Adam Blythe at her home.

She is accused of helping her boyfriend Wayne Deluen and his brother Gavin Deluen, as they subjected Mr Blythe, 34, to a sustained beating.

Mr Blythe suffered injuries to 28 parts of his body, including fractures to his skull, cheek, eye socket and hand. He had bleeding on the brain, a collapsed lung, puncture wounds to the back of his legs, multiple cuts and bruises and marks to his neck.

He spent two months in hospital but is now back living in York.

The Deluen brothers have admitted brutally attacking Mr Blythe with a drill, a golf club, a spirit level and a rock in a sock.

Mum-of-two Raisbeck said in evidence at Newcastle Crown Court today that she had no idea the victim had been left bleeding in her cupboard until she found him hours later, when she went to put her gas on.

Prosecutors claim Raisbeck sparked the gruesome violence by lying that Mr Blythe was a sex offender and she is also accused of repeatedly stamping on him.

The Deluen brothers have pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent but Raisbeck denies the charge and is on trial.

Raisbeck, who said she had given money to Mr Blythe in a doorway in their home town of Blyth the day before, denied saying he was a child rapist or looking him up online. She claimed she only told the Deluens she had heard rumours he was a conman. There is nothing at all to suggest Mr Blythe is a sexual offender.

Recalling the attack in her home on Robert Street, Blyth, last February, Raisbeck said: “I saw Gavin hitting him with a golf club and Wayne was hitting him with a sock with something in.

“Then I heard the drill. Wayne had the drill and it was plugged in. I could hear the drill and I went upstairs because I was petrified of them two. I didn’t know why it was happening or why they wanted to do something like that to him.”

Asked if she tried to stop the violence, she replied: “I told them but they could have done anything to me, the state they were in.”

Raisbeck said she went to bed and spent time on Facebook on her phone and could hear shouting and music from downstairs.

Asked why she didn’t call police, she began crying and said: “I could have but they would’ve known it was me.”

She said she awoke the next morning and could see no sign of the Deluens, who had left, or Mr Blythe, who was lying seriously injured and unconscious in her cupboard.

Raisbeck said she went to pick her two children up from her mum’s nearby then met Wayne Deluen.
She told jurors he didn’t tell her anything about what had happened to Mr Blythe the night before.

Raisbeck said it was only when she got home and went into her cupboard to put the gas on that she found the unconscious victim, who was covered in blood and had been there for hours.
She told the court: “I thought he was dead.

“I covered him then I ran straight down to my mam’s and got her to come then I rang an ambulance.”
Her barrister, Tony Cornberg, said to her: “It may be suggested you knew he was in that cupboard all along.”

Raisbeck replied: “No.”

Mr Cornberg asked: “It’s suggested you attacked him in that cupboard. Did that happen?” She replied: “No.”

Mr Cornberg said: “Did you in at any time join in with the assault?” She replied: “No, not at all.”

Raisbeck denies inflicting GBH with intent. She has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by lying to the police after her arrest.

Gavin Deluen, 23, of Dove Court, Cullercoats, North Tyneside, and Wayne Deluen, 25, of Pecket Close, Blyth, admit GBH with intent and are awaiting sentence. Raisbeck's trial continues.

A HOMELESS man from York was savagely beaten with weapons in a “sadistic” attack, a court heard.

Adam Blythe was hit so hard with a golf club that it snapped, his legs were punctured with a drill and his face was smashed in with a spirit level and a rock in a sock.

The 34-year-old suffered multiple injuries to 28 different parts of his body, including fractures to his skull, cheek, eye socket and hand.

He also had bleeding on the brain, a collapsed lung, puncture wounds to the back of his legs from the drill, multiple cuts and bruises and marks to his neck suggesting electric cable had been tied around it.

Brothers Gavin and Wayne Deluen have admitted the attack and now Kelly Ann Raisbeck, 22, has gone on trial accused of joining in, which she denies.

Raisbeck allegedly sparked the attack by falsely claiming Mr Blythe was a child sex offender.

Mr Blythe was eventually dragged unconscious and bleeding into a cupboard, where he was left for several hours, Newcastle Crown Court heard. He spent almost two months in hospital, but is now back living in York.

James Adkin, prosecuting, told jurors the motive was unclear but said the violence had a sadistic element. He said: "As well as the violence, Mr Blythe had been urinated and defecated on.”

The victim was known to sleep in the doorway of an old Blockbuster store in Blyth. Local people would sometimes take him into their homes to give him food and drink, jurors were told.

Around midnight on February 8 last year, he was approached by the Deluen brothers, who had been out drinking and taking drugs.

They invited him home with them for a few drinks and went to Raisbeck’s home in George Street.

Mr Blythe's next memory was waking up seriously injured in hospital.

Gavin Deluen, who has admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent along with his brother, was a prosecution witness against Raisbeck.

He said they felt sorry for Mr Blythe and invited him back for drinks and all went well until Raisbeck claimed their guest was a child rapist.

Deluen said: “Him and my brother started wrestling so I panicked and went to get a golf club and hit him on the back of the legs.

“The club broke in two but I carried on hitting him with the snapped bit like a cosh.

“Wayne was stamping and kicking Mr Blythe and Kelly Ann stamped on his head three or four times when he was lying on his back trying to cover his face.

“I’m not saying she caused him serious harm. I accept full responsibility for what I did but Kelly Ann definitely assaulted him.”

Deluen, who denied Raisbeck’s claim he urinated on the victim, said his brother hit Mr Blythe with a rock in a sock and a drill while he smashed his cheekbone with a spirit level.

He added: “At no point did he drill Mr Blythe as Kelly Ann has speculated. He threw it at him and started hitting him and the drill bit pierced him.

“Mr Blythe was in a lot of pain. We either dragged him or threw him in a cupboard. I hit him with the level and Wayne hit him with the drill and Kelly Ann kicked him in the head a few more times. We took turns. I know it sounds horrible but we took turns."

He said he was ashamed and disgusted with himself and was sorry.

Prosecutors claim Raisbeck, who was going out with Wayne Deluen, lied to police when she was arrested and kept changing her story.

The prosecutor said the attack may have started because Raisbeck claimed there was online evidence Mr Blythe was a sex offender.

Mr Adkin said: “In fact that was not true, there is nothing about him being a sex offender online and he is not a sex offender."

When police were called at 4.30pm that day they found Mr Blythe in a ball, unconscious and covered in blood. There was blood all over the house and three pairs of shoes were in the washing machine, the court heard.

Mr Blythe was taken into intensive care and spent nearly two months in hospital before being discharged to a rehabilitation centre.

Raisbeck, of Robert Street, Blyth, denies inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. Gavin Deluen, 23, of Dove Court, Cullercoats, North Tyneside, and Wayne Deluen, 25, of Pecket Close, Blyth, will be sentenced after Raisbeck’s trial.
