A CYCLIST was injured in a York accident in which her bike was trapped under a car.

The collision happened at 2.20pm yesterday in Fulford Road, near the entrance to Aldi and close to the entrance to Imphal Barracks.

The road was closed in both directions for almost an hour after the accident, causing queues to build up along Fishergate from the city centre and along Fulford Road from Fulford.

North Yorkshire Police said the cyclist was a woman in her 20s who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers later removed the bicycle, which had a badly buckled front wheel, from under a vehicle.

There were conflicting reports about whether the woman ended up under the car. Police received a report saying “female is trapped under her bike which is under the car,” and on arrival, an officer said: “female trapped under vehicle.”

However, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said the cyclist was not trapped under the car, and a spokeswoman said she was not believed to have been seriously injured.

Anyone who saw the accident is asked to call 101.
