TWO rush hour crashes injured six people - one seriously - in a busy morning for the emergency services.

A serious collision on the A64 blocked the road and caused long tailbacks west of Tadcaster shortly after 8am today.

One motorist was taken to York Hospital and two others were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Crews were alerted to the three-car pile up after a silver Proton Persona, a black Mazda Tamura and silver Mercedes CLS all collided.

The road was blocked by the cars and debris until 10am, causing huge disruption for hundreds of motorists travelling towards Leeds.

Meanwhile, a crash in East Yorkshire saw the emergency services scrambled to the scene on the A1079, in Market Weighton, at 7.26am.

The incident involved three vehicles including a blue Nissan Qashqai, black Vauxhall Corsa and white Ford Transit Tipper.

Four people were injured and one person had to be cut from their vehicle.

One patient was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary with a serious leg injury.

A diversion was put in place and the road was re-opened four hours later.

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "The A64 incident came into us as a three car collision.

"We sent three ambulances and an emergency care practitioner to the scene.

"One patient was taken to York Hospital and there were two walking wounded who were checked over at the scene and didn't need to be taken to hospital.

"The other incident on the A1079 came into us as a two car collision with people trapped.

"We sent two ambulances, the air ambulance, a clinical supervisor and a doctor.

"One patient was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary and two other patients were taken there by land ambulance."
