A ROCK school in York is launching a training course for adults wanting to forge a career in the music industry.

Sue Williamson, director of Tang Hall Rock School, claims "Musication” - an accredited music industry-training course open to any adult with no upper age limit - could change someone's life.

"It's a chance to take-up a new career pathway, an opportunity to have fun and become energized, and a release for creative energy in the company of others," she said.

"Whether you have a job, are between jobs, or are simply looking for a bit more to do, Friday afternoons will never be the same again!”

She said the course would be preceded on on Friday February 27 by a free afternoon of listening to and making music.

"We want as many adults as possible to come along and have fun, have a cup of tea with us, hear some awesome artists like Kritikal, aka Liam Powers -a well-known hiphop and grime artist - ask questions, hear what others in the community have to offer, and share some sounds of their own," she said.

"The idea is that if people like what they see on the 27th, they might want to sign up for the next four Fridays in March, and then after that, if they are enjoying themselves, they can make a regular date with us for Friday afternoons."

Kritikal said: “ I am really proud to have the opportunity to share my passion for music as well as my skills and knowledge. If I could inspire just one person with music and raise their aspirations that would be a huge achievement."

The rock school is part of Tang Hall SMART Ltd, a social enterprise based at the Burnholme Community Hub in Bad Bargain Lane and Inspired Youth, a York-based non-profit community organisation, have donated their services for the course.

The open-day event is being managed and marketed by local residents Becky O’Donovan and Carly Fahey.

Becky said: “It’s about time Tang Hall was put on the map with the things Tang Hall SMART can offer! I’ve really loved being part of this great new up and coming project, aimed at people who love music, from playing to singing/rapping who have a bit of spare time on their hands."
