An annual Christmas light display has helped raise £3,600 for two charities – smashing its previous collection record.
People were invited to see the dazzling display, in Twin Pike Way, a cul-de-sac in Wigginton, and asked to make donations for St Leonard’s Hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The total raised is £800 more than in 2013 and means each charity will receive £1,500, with the remainder being donated to Wigginton Primary School.
Sue Miller, Fundraising Manager at St Leonard’s Hospice, said: “It’s fitting that Twin Pike Way is usually known these days as ‘Twinkle Pike’. Once again the lights have attracted visitors from a wide area to enjoy the Christmas spectacle.”
Each house in the street was involved in the light show and this year’s total means close to £60,000 has been raised over the years by the displays, which feature hundreds of decorations.
The hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance have been the main beneficiaries since the events began.
Sue added: “We are very grateful to all the residents for their continued support for the work of local charities; shine on, Twinkle Pike.”
