A VOLUNTEER with commercial, retail and hospitality experience is wanted to join the board of York Theatre Royal Enterprises Ltd.

There is an opportunity for a non-executive director to join York Theatre Royal Enterprises, a trading subsidiary, owned and controlled by York Citizen’s Theatre Trust Ltd, a registered charity.

The board of directors is made up of two non-executive directors, one of which is chair, two non-executive directors who are also Trustees of York Citizens’ Theatre Trust and a co-opted member who is chair of the finance and general purposes sub-committee of the York Citizens’ Theatre Trust Board of Trustees.

The purpose of the trading subsidiary is to generate income for the parent company, York Citizens’ Theatre Trust Ltd. All profits made by York Theatre Royal Enterprises Ltd are gift aided to York Citizens’ Theatre Trust Ltd.

A spokesman said: "The theatre is particularly interested in expressions of interest from individuals with experience in the commercial, retail and hospitality sectors.

"Though the position is not remunerated, out of pocket expenses will be paid and opportunities to see the theatre’s work will be made available."

York Theatre Royal, which was formally constituted as York Citizens’ Theatre Trust in 1936, welcomed more than 185,000 visitors each year to its 270-year-old building in the heart of the historic city of York.

In March, the theatre will close its doors for eight months to undergo a major refurbishment, the most significant in almost 50 years.

The spokesman added: "This capital project, supported by Arts Council England and City of York Council, will contribute to the ongoing sustainability of the organisation.

"It brings with it exciting opportunities to significantly develop the trading operation of the theatre by introducing new income streams and exploring additional, exciting ways to capitalise on the £4.1 million investment in the historic building."

Expressions of interest need to be submitted by Sunday, February 1, and more information can be found online at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
