A YORK primary school has been given a boost up the Ofsted rankings after their latest report.

Burton Green Primary School in Clifton has been rated good in all areas - the second highest rating - having previously been graded "satisfactory".

Head teacher, Karen Tatham, said: "We are delighted with the report from our recent Ofsted inspection which recognises that Burton Green Primary School is a good school in all areas.

"We are so proud of our children, our staff, and the support from parents and carers which mean that the changes across the last two years we have all worked so hard to introduce have been successful. Getting to good is not easy and Ofsted only award this judgement when they know a school is effective in delivering outcomes that provide well for all its pupils’ needs."

In their report inspectors said:

• The headteacher, middle leaders and governors have high expectations for all pupils and are driving improvements in teaching strongly, so that most pupils now achieve well

• Attendance has risen since the previous inspection. The vast majority of pupils enjoy coming to school, and are well-mannered and welcoming to visitors.  Pupils feel safe and behave well

• Parents are pleased with the progress their children make, and feel their views are always taken into account

• The school is well led by the head teacher. She has developed a team of committed practitioners, who share her aspiration of success for all children. Senior and middle leaders are determined to raise achievement even higher.

Cllr Janet Looker, City of York Council's cabinet member for education, said: "Under the leadership of Karen Tatham and chairman of governors Paul Black, and with the support of their team, the school has not only achieved its highest Ofsted rating for many years, but has also become a central part of the local community, providing learning opportunities not only for children, but for their families and friends as well. With such strong links to the area it serves, I'm confident the school and its pupils will continue to go from strength to strength."

Mr Black, who has been chairman of governors for the last 12 months, said: “We believe that we will continue to provide the highest outcomes for our community by building partnerships on the school site that enhance learning for both our children and our families.”
